Fall Horse Drive Week
Like our Spring Horse Drive, the Fall Horse Drive at Sprucedale Ranch is an immersive, working-ranch experience that marks an important seasonal transition at this Arizona guest ranch. As summer comes to a close, it is time to move the horses back to their winter pastures.
The Fall Horse Drive covers many miles across changing terrain, moving from the high country back toward winter range. Days are spent horseback, often for extended hours, riding with purpose as the herd is guided safely along established routes. Riders should be comfortable spending long days in the saddle and maintaining focus as conditions shift. The pace is steady and purposeful, and the work requires confidence, awareness, and cooperation among riders.
This experience offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with horsemanship in a way few guests ever experience. Riders develop a stronger understanding of herd behavior, reading the land, and working as part of a coordinated group. Horses are experienced and responsive, allowing riders to build trust and refine their skills through repetition and real-world application rather than formal instruction alone.
At the end of each day, we will drive back to the ranch and guests will stay in their own private cabin. Sprucedale provides the horses, tack, meals, tents, and cabin accommodations, allowing guests to focus fully on the experience. Evenings offer time to rest, share stories, and reflect on the day’s progress, creating a strong sense of camaraderie among the group.
If you’re the type of rider who values tradition, challenge, and the satisfaction that comes from participating in the real seasonal work of a working ranch, this is the ranch experience for you. You’ll end the week with a deep and authentic connection to the land, the horses, and the heritage that defines Sprucedale Ranch. At the end of this week, each rider will get a buckle to remember their time.
