Fall Cattle Roundup
Cattle Roundup Week at Sprucedale Ranch invites guests into one of the most time-honored traditions of a working Arizona Dude Ranch. This is a hands-on, all-inclusive experience centered on gathering and moving cattle across open range, guided by the same methods and horsemanship that have shaped ranch life in the American West for generations. It is purposeful, challenging, and deeply rewarding work.
Throughout the week, riders spend long days horseback, working together to locate, gather, and move cattle across varied terrain. Each day requires focus, awareness, and teamwork as riders learn to read the land, anticipate cattle movement, and support one another in real time. The work is dynamic, with no two days unfolding the same way. You’ll quickly gain a deeper appreciation for the skill and patience required in cattle work.
This guest ranch experience is best suited for confident riders who are comfortable spending extended hours in the saddle and riding at a working pace. While guidance is always available, learning happens through participation, repetition, and problem solving, creating growth that feels natural and lasting.
Cattle Roundup Week takes place during the fall season, when cooler temperatures and quieter rhythms create ideal conditions for ranch work. Without the structure of summer family programming, days flow from one to the next, with relaxed evenings spent sharing meals in the lodge, trading stories, and unwinding after an exhausting but fulfilling day in the saddle. At the end of this week, each rider will get a buckle to remember their time.

Some days you will trailer to other parts of the range. There will also be days when you will take a lunch with you.
As you can see this is a true “working to get the job done” adventure. We need to gather the cows to get them Moved to their new pasture or to the ranch to be shipped to their winter pastures.
