Fall Cattle Gathering
Cattle Gathering Week at our Arizona Dude Ranch offers guests the opportunity to take part in one of the most important seasonal traditions on a working ranch. This is real ranch work, carried out the same way it has been for generations, and guests are invited to be active participants rather than observers. It is an experience rooted in horsemanship, teamwork, and a deep connection to the land and livestock.
Throughout the experience, you’ll work alongside experienced ranch hands to help gather cattle across open range and varied terrain. Days are spent on horseback as cattle are located, moved, and brought together. Each day presents different challenges, from reading the land and anticipating cattle movement to communicating clearly with fellow riders. The work requires focus and adaptability, and it rewards riders with a strong sense of accomplishment that only comes from being part of something real.
This experience is best suited for confident riders who are comfortable spending long hours in the saddle and riding at a working pace. While instruction and guidance are always provided, the emphasis is on learning through doing. Guests quickly develop a better understanding of cattle behavior, herd dynamics, and the role a good horse plays in efficient, thoughtful ranch work.
Beyond the work itself, Cattle Gathering Week offers a rare look into the rhythm of ranch life outside the busy summer season. Meals are shared in the lodge, conversations come easily after full days outdoors, and evenings are relaxed and grounded, leaving you plenty of space to slow down, reflect, and fully absorb the authentic experience of life on the ranch.

Some days you will trailer to other parts of the range. There will also be days when you will take a lunch with you.
As you can see this is a true “working to get the job done” adventure. We need to gather the cows to get them Moved to their new pasture or to the ranch to be shipped to their winter pastures.
